IS PRINCE2™ RELEVANT FOR ME?

Should I be interested in PRINCE2™?

Are you involved in project work? No? Good – then still read on. Yes? Then read on and keep yourself informed of best practice in project management.
If you answered no to the question then I bet you are thinking this isnt for you – but hold on, before you stop reading just consider the following …..
Do things get changed a lot in your organisation? – for example are, departments re-organised, offices and buildings relocated, new or changed procedures put in place, new computer systems brought in, new products added and old products withdrawn, contracts for work tendered for and won, teams setup to service new client needs….
Do you hear the word project or project management mentioned either at your workplace or in the media? – “UK Government announces multi-million pound project!”, “Wembley Stadium project flounders again!”, “Pharmaceutical company announces major development project in China”, “MD announces SAP project”, “Efficiency at work project launched”…..
Do you get asked (or told!) to do work related to changing something in your department or for another part of your organisation?
What all of the above have in common is the word project; and that is because projects and project management drive a huge proportion of change activity undertaken by private businesses, public sector organisations and not for profit companies across the globe and across all types of industry.
So directly or indirectly you are involved in project work. This is why you should be interested in PRINCE2™, which is the UK standard for managing projects.
Managing projects is unlike normal management. Projects have specific and unique goals (novelty), they have more uncertainty (risk), they are usually limited in time and resources, they bring together disparate groups of people - but still have to deliver a good result (success and benefits).
This combination of features is tricky to control and over many years those involved in projects have developed methods, tools and practises and captured knowledge related to this thing called project management. The leader in this field is PRINCE2™.
PRINCE2™ sets out a step by step guide of what you should be doing throughout the life of a project to make sure everything is running smoothly. It shows how senior management, the project manager and everyone on the project team work together and what they do. It even sets out which plans and reports you need to produce and when.
For many project roles, knowledge of the structure and terminology of PRINCE2™ is becoming a key requirement, as it provides a common language and structure across all projects. It is adaptable and flexible for any type or size of project and can be used as a common link between different teams within a business.
It would be a good idea to find out more about PRINCE2™ if any of the following apply to you:
• Your personal development is important - you want to find out about PRINCE2™ because like to keep up to speed with current thinking and best practice
• You are increasingly working on projects as part of your current role, or have been asked to join a project team within your organisation.
• The use of the PRINCE2™ project management method is a requirement of you or your organisation working with other client or partner organisations (private or public sector) or for wining or servicing contracts.
• You provide advice, consultancy or assurance services for others involved in projects and must have knowledge of available methods, tools and current thinking.
To find out more, attend our Introduction to PRINCE2™ course, and make sure you are not left out!
